Profit and loss calculator
Work out what a holding of listed shares has made or lost. Enter each purchase with its units and its price, then enter the price you want to value the holding at - today's market price, or the price you sold at. The calculator gives the cost, the value, the gain or loss in rupees and as a percentage, an average price weighted by what you actually invested, and a breakdown of each purchase on its own. All figures are in Pakistani rupees (PKR).

What each purchase is of your total cost
Purchase by purchase
| Purchase | Units | Buy price | Cost | Value | Gain / loss |
|---|
Cost is the units of each purchase multiplied by the price you paid for them, added together. Value is the whole holding multiplied by the price you entered. The gain or loss is the value less the cost, and the return is that difference measured against the cost. The average cost per share is weighted by the money you invested, not by the number of purchases, so a large purchase at a low price counts for more than a small one at a high price.
Brokerage, commission and the other transaction costs are not included, because they are negotiable with your broker and differ from client to client. That matters in one specific place: the price at which this holding breaks even is your average cost plus your own dealing costs, and is therefore a little above the average cost shown here. Capital gains tax is not deducted either - that is what the capital gains tax calculator is for, and the two are kept separate on purpose.
